The Gilbert Douglas RoomThe full size bed with crocheted canopy, antique furnishings, wide plank floor, braided rug, and original 1845 wallpaper make this room seem like a page from the past. The 4-foot clawfoot tub is a rare find. About a foot shorter than most tubs of this type yet big enough to sit in, it is decorated with a row of tulips stenciled around the outside. Wainscoting, pedestal sink, and dark green wide-plank floors give the bath a real farmhouse feel. After steaming off layer upon layer of wallpaper in the bedroom, the owners found the final hand painted layer and just couldn't steam it off, knowing that it was on the walls when Lincoln was president. It's a bit worn but doesn't look too bad, considering it's over 150 years old! (See Rates) |
